Xiaoxia Lei 雷晓霞

I am an Assistant Professor of Management Science & Engineering at the Department of Management Science, School of Management (SOE) of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. I am the Faculty Director of the Honors Program in Big Data and Analytics of Qiming College. I have previously worked as Data Scientist or Visiting Academic in the industry and academia for the Tsinghua Initiative on the Digital Economy (Greater Bay Area), Lufax, China Foreign Exchange Trade System & National Interbank Funding Center (CFETS), and some Big Techs in China.

My research focuses on the economic and societal impact of AI through the feedback loop within data, algorithm and entities (human or organizations). At the current stage, I am mainly interested in understanding the role of data in information ecosystem and most of my work studies the implications of data sharing as a critical source of IT capabilities in the AI era. My research uses tools from applied econometrics, experimental methodologies, applied data science, large-scale data analytics, machine/deep learning, simulation, optimization, computational social science in order to shed light on these questions. I am also inspired by the way of thinking from systems engineering and microeconomic theory.

Previously, I got my Ph.D. (with MPhil.) in Management Science and Engineering (MS&E) at Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM), Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a B.A. in Management (with a focus on Managerial Economics) from the School of Business Administration (SBA) of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. Before college, I was in the Hunan Provincial Natural Sciences Talent Class, where I learned a bunch of fun stuff, including college physics, data structure and algorithms, the concept of "Artificial Intelligence", and the programming language "Pascal".
